These latest works were inspired with color pastels I purchased during my travels in Provence in 2022. The minerals in these earth tone pastels come from the rocks and hills of where Van Gogh painted his most famous works.

The bright color pastels are an extension of my previous gouache paintings. While these pastels offer a much brighter palette, they were a challenging medium because of their fragility. I loved working with the intensity of the bright colors and found that their powdery nature required me to slow down and invent ways to resolve these paintings.

The grey, black and gold pieces are a further exploration of geometric shapes and structures with a limited color palette.

Originally from New York City, BJ Dockweiler immersed herself in art and design at Fordham University, The New School, The School of Visual Arts and the Art Students League.

Her work has been exhibited at the StudioEleven Gallery, the Ebel, The Neutra Gallery, The Colburn School, Art Share LA, the SMC Barrett Art Gallery as well as being held in private collections. She has been studying and painting at the Tom Wudl Studio located in the downtown LA arts district since 2008.
