SARAH STEINBERG

My paintings are about the extravagantly humble  landscape of Ontario, Canada, where I was born and lived for twenty-six years.  I still love and miss it.  This homesickness is very stimulating for me.  After all, where is home if you don't live where you were born?  Is it here in California?  Is it there in Ontario?  Is home both places or neither?  I paint trees, sky and shells of houses that are either appearing or disappearing.  My paintings depict a idea of home that really doesn't exist any more.  Trying to convey these concepts on canvas is very comforting.

Santa Monica based artist Sarah Steinberg recreates the landscape of her childhood in Ontario Canada working primarily in oils on canvas.  She has had four solo shows at the Lois Lambert Gallery at Bergamot Station in Santa Monica but has been making art ever since she could hold a crayon.  She is looking forward to showing her work in January 2025 at the Lois Lambert Gallery.  Steinberg has been a student of Tom Wudl at the Tom Wudl Studio since 2010.
