Beth Burns

I make mostly abstract oil paintings that play with light, color, texture, through exploring a variety of ways to apply paint. Some paintings address complexity through expressive marks, embellishments and saturated color. Another branch of work searches for simplicity, through subtle or slowly blended tones. Whether still or dramatic, my paintings wonder at mystery beyond knowing.

Beth Burns lives and works in Santa Monica, California. In 2020-2023 she completed three commissions for private collections. A member of the Studio Eleven Artist Collective Member, Los Angeles, she continues to work with Mentor Artist Tom Wudl. In 2009 - 2013 Beth received a masters in interior architecture and practiced interior design, creating bespoke lighting fixtures, furniture and commissioned murals. From 1983 - 2005 Beth was the Founder, Artistic and Executive Director of 'The Wooden Floor' in Santa Ana, an acclaimed non-profit serving thousands of youth from low income backgrounds through rigorous arts and tutoring programs. Beth's innovative community work received numerous leadership and arts awards.
